Team Philippines Arnis Dominance

TEAM Philippines showed the world that arnis is the martial arts of the Philippines by putting on an impressive performance at the start of the competitions of the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation World Championships on Friday at the J-Center Mall in Mandaue City this January 17, 2005.
The team dominated the event in the tournament participated by arnisadors from different countries all over the world.
The Philippine players carted away 22 gold medals, 20 silvers and six bronzes, which is nine golds more than Team USA, which had a 13-7-10 gold-silver-bronze medal haul as of 2 p.m. yesterday.
Japan, which was bannered by mostly Filipino eskrimadors is running third after collecting nine golds, four silvers and four bronzes in the tournament participated by 25 countries around the globe.
Canada had six golds, Reunion Island won two, and Australia, United Kingdom and Italy won one gold each as the competition entered the combat stage.
Sebastia Villanueva, and Christhyl Mae Gumajin were the top producers of the Philippines on the opening day of competition as they collected two gold medals each.
Joey Pascua of Umingan,Pangasinan also won gold medal in the Male 18+ 43.1-50 kgs Padded point competition. after beating compatriot Jerome Pacatang in the finals while Trixie Lofranco beat up South Korean Kwan Jhung in the female 18+ 53. 1-58 kgs finals for another gold
